The Aframax tanker “Akademik Gubin” built for Rosneft’s subsidiary Rosnefteflot at Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex in the Russian Far East has set sail for sea trials, Rosneft has reported. The vessel is the fourth Aframax launched at the yard.
After successfully completing mooring trials and testing the main engine at the yard, the “Akademik Gubin” set sail to the sea trial area where its speed characteristics and steerability in all operation modes will be tested.
During the sea trials, the crew together with a team of yard specialists will test the operations of the man and auxiliary engines, the life support systems and the navigation complex of the ship.
Following the sea trials, the vessel mechanisms are to be checked up before submission to the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and the customer, Rosnefteflot.
The tanker is designed to transport crude oil and oil products with an unlimited sailing area. The 114,000 dwt 250 m LOA and 44 m beam vessel with an ICE-1А notation has a speed of 14.6 knots and can carry up to 130,000 tons of cargo.
Zvezda has a series of 12 such tankers in its orderbook, three Aframaxes, “Vladimir Monomakh”, “Vladimir Vinogradov” and “Okeansky Prospect” are already deployed carrying crude. They are the first tankers of this class built in Russia.
