During January-March 2023, Russian Railways loaded 305.5 mn tons of cargo, 0.8% below the liftings during the first three months of 2022.
Coal loading, which is Russian Railways’ top commodity, increased by 0.7% year-on-year up to 91.8 mn tons.
Oil and products, Russian Railways’ second most important cargo, made 54.4 mn tons, down 2.1% year-on-year. Ferrous and manganese ore loading declined by 3.2% down to 28.1 mn tons.
Construction cargo was up 17.5% to 31 mn tons, grain up 36% to 7.6 mn tons, non-ferrous ore and raw Sulphur up 1% to 4.3 mn tons.
Other commodities demonstrated a negative trend.
Industrial and forming materials loading declined by 25.2% to 6.2 mn tons.
Ferrous metals were down 7.5% to 16.6 mn tons, mineral fertilizers down 4.9% to 15.2 mn tons, timber and logs down 21.6% to 6.9 mn tons, chemicals and soda down 13.1% to 5.4 mn tons, cement down 3.9% to 4.6 mn tons, coke down 2.1% to 2.8 mn tons, and ferrous metal scrap down 13.6% to 2.5 mn tons.
Rail cargo throughput during January-March made 667.3 bn tons/km, up 2.6% year-on-year.
In March, Russian Railways loaded 109.1 mn tons of cargo, up 2.3% year-on-year.
Cargo throughput in March amounted to 236.3 bn tons/km, up 0.7% year-on-year.
