Government Allocates 15 Billion to Build 7 Ships

  • The Government of the Russian Federation has allocated 15 bn rubles ($261.3 mn) to start the construction of seven commercial vessels. A decree to this effect was signed was signed by RF Premier Mikhail Mishustin on Septemberv23, 2022, the Government press office said in a statement.

    The money will be used to finance keel-laying and the initial construction stage of three Karelia type cruise ships with a passenger capacity of 200 people, and four dry cargo / container ships.

    The cargo ships are to be launched in 2025, and the cruise liners in 2026. The total sum necessary to complete the construction is almost 22 bn rubles ($383.2 mn).

    When delivered, the vessels will be leased out to major Russian shipping companies under favourable terms.
