Russian Railways are prepared for a change in transportation geography, Sergey Pavlov, Deputy CEO of Russian Railways, said at the transport and logistics congress TransRussia that started on Monday in Moscow.
‘We are seeing freight traffic diverting from the West to the East and the South via TransCaspian routes crossing Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. It is a new challenge, and we are prepared for it,’ he said.
Freight traffic diversion means that infrastructure ought to be expanded and developed, so Russian Railways continue developing its capacity in the East and in the South, he added.
