Russian Transport System Carries 2.5% More Cargo YoY in 2021

  • During 2021, the overall cargo traffic by all transport modes in the RF transport system was up 2,5% year-on-year to exceed 8 bn tons.

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, the largest volume was carried by road, 5.5 bn tons, up 1.6% compared to the 2020 result.

    Rail freight grew by 3.2% year-on-year up to 1.28 bn tons.

    Pipeline traffic was up 7.5% year-on-year to 1.14 bn tons.

    Inland shipping volume declined by 4.5% year-on-year down to 104.1 mn tons.

    Sea freight decreased by 4.8% year-on-year down to 23.5 mn tons.

    Air transport carried 1.48 mn tons, up 26.4% year-on-year.

    In December 2021, inland shipping freight traffic declined month-on-month.
