Azov and Black Sea Basin Throughput in November 2021: Foodstuffs Up

  • The total cargo throughput via the Azov and Black Sea basin ports in November 2021 decreased by 11.7% year-on-year. Import declined by 4.4%, export was down 16.3% and cabotage down 43.6%. Transit, on the contrary, grew by 17.5%.

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the share of the Azov and Black Sea basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in November 2021 amounted to 29.2%.

    More than half of the total was oil and products, with crude oil accounting for 33.3% of the overall throughput, and oil products for 19.5%. Coal and coke amount to 16%. Grain constituted 13.7% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth was in the Ro-Ro segment (up 2.2-fold), coal and coke (+47.4%), foodstuffs (up 36,3%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were metal scrap (-90.2%), sugar (-83%) and other bulk (grab) (-62%).

    Novorossiysk accounted for 57.1% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Azov and Black basin sea ports in November. Taman handled 14.8%, and port Tuapse 7% of the total.
