Container Traffic via Caspian Basin Ports in September 2021 Down 13.5%

  • The total container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in September 2021 declined by 13.5% year-on-year.

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, export decreased by 33.3%. Cabotage grew by 11.1%, and import by 15.2%.

    The share of the Caspian basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in September 2021 made just 0.05%.

    Laden container throughput in the Caspian was down 17.8%. Reefer containers were non-existent in September 2021. Imports made 57.3% of all the laden containers, exports accounted for 35.7%, and cabotage for 7% of the total.

    Empty container traffic increased by 9.8%.

    The port of Astrakhan accounted for 80.9% of the aggregate container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in September. Olya handled 19.1% of the total.
