Transit by Northern Sea Route Doubles

  • 24.2 mn tons of cargo was carried by the Northern Sea Route during January-September 2021, up 3.5% year-on-year, the RF Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport (Rosmorrechflot), said in a statement. Transit more than doubled to make 1.37 mn tons.

    60% of the overall freight traffic was LNG and condensed gas.

    1,052 permits for navigation on the Northern Sea Route was issued during the 9 months od 2021, up 15.3% year-on-year. This number includes 144 permits issued to foreign-flagged vessels, down two units compared to the same period of 2020.
