Russian Railways have reported a 13.2% year-on-year increase in rail container traffic during January-September 2021. All in all, almost 4.8 mn TEU was carried during the period under report.
Domestic container traffic grew by 6.2% up to 1.8 mn TEU, export was up 8.9% to 1.75 mn TEU, import up 14.7% 1.02 mn TEU, while transit surged 1.4-fold up to 781.8 thousand TEU.
Laden container traffic exceeded 3.4 mn TEU, up 18.4% year-on-year.
Commodity-wise, containerized grains grew the most, up 3.2-fold to 19.8 thousand TEU. Non-ferrous ore and raw sulphur surged 1.4-fold up to 237.4 thousand TEU, potatoes, vegetables and fruit were up 1.4-fold to 7.9 thousand TEU.
Consumer goods were up 28.3% to 362.6 thousand TEU, hardware up 30.3% to 312.2 thousand TEU, machinery, engines and equipment up 31.6% to 276.6 thousand TEU, vehicles and parts up 25.3% to 208.7 thousand TEU.
Containerized chemicals and soda were up 9.1% to 560.6 thousand TEU, timber and woodwork up 10% to 453.5 thousand TEU, ferrous metals up 23.1% up to 182.6 thousand TEU, other and LCL cargo up 33.7% to 126.8 thousand TEU, and non-ferrous metals up 7.5% to 114.7 thousand TEU.
Construction cargo transportation increased by 17.3% up to 111.8 thousand TEU, chemical and mineral fertilizers by 24.6% to 38.9 thousand TEU, fish by 22.6% up to 19.8 thousand TEU, meal and flour by 1.1% to 7. 9 up thousand TEU, and other food products by 18.9% up to 138.5 thousand TEU.
Containerized coal transportation that started in February this year made 21.1 thousand tons during January-September 2021.
Containerized paper was down 0.9% to 261 thousand TEU, oil and products down 12.3% to 54 thousand TEU, and metal structures down 0.8% to 11.9 thousand TEU.
