Russian Railways’ Loading Up 4% in January-August

  • During January-August 2021, Russian Railways loaded 849.8 mn tons of cargo, up 4% year-on-year.

    Coal loading increased by 8.8% up to 246.1 mn tons. Oil and products, Russian Railways’ second most important cargo in terms of volume, was up 1.6% to 142.5 mn tons. Ferrous and manganese ore increased by 0.5% up to 80.5 mn tons.

    Ferrous metals were up 2% to 45.3 mn tons, timber and logs up 2.7% up to 28.9 mn tons, cement up 7.2% to 17.9 mn tons, ferrous metal scrap up 25.2% to 10.8 mn tons.

    Industrial and forming materials loading grew by 6.2% up to 23.5 mn tons, chemical and mineral fertilizers 3.5% to 43.2 mn tons, coke up 5.5% to 7.7 mn tons, grain by 2.5% up to 15.6 mn tons, coke up 5.7% to 6.7 mn tons.

    Construction cargo loading was down 3.5% to 85.8 mn tons, soda and chemicals down 0.6% to 16.1 mn tons, non-ferrous ore and raw suphfur down 0.6% to 13.3 mn tons

    Rail cargo throughput during January-August 2021 made 1,741.7 bn tons per km, up 4.6% year-on-year.

    In August, Russian Railways loaded 109 mn tons of cargo, up 0.9% year-on-year.

    Cargo throughput in August amounted to 220.9 bn tons per km, up 1.9% year-on-year.
