The consolidated throughput of the stevedoring companies incorporated in Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port Group made 37.3 mn tons during January-April 2021 declining by 18.7%.
Liquid bulk, which accounts for 79.3% of the aggregate throughput of the Group, decreased by 22.9% year-on-year down to 29.4 mn tons.
Crude oil dropped 31.3% down to 16.5 mn tons due to the global market situation in the pandemic conditions and reflecting the OPEC+ agreement on cutting production.
Oil products traffic was down 8.7% to 12.5 mn tons.
The only liquid cargo commodity that grew in January-March was vegetable oils, which were up 8.4% to 171.5 thousand tons.
The only liquid bulk category that grew during the period under report is oils, up 0.4% to 196.9 thousand tons.
Solid bulk declined by 5.6% year-on-year down to 2.2 mn tons. Sugar handling surged 44.3-fold to make 203.8 thousand tons reflecting the high demand for raw sugar in the FSU Central Asian countries. Chemicals grew by 17.8% up to 293.7 thousand tons.
All the other commodities in this segment declined with ferrous ore down 21.4% to 1.2 mn tons, coal down 4.9% to 436.4 thousand tons.
General cargo increased by 7.5% year-on-year to exceed 3.9 mn tons driven by ferrous metals and cast iron, which grew by 9.7% to 3.5 mn tons supported by the rising demand and high prices in the global market.
Non-ferrous metals decreased by 15.6% down to 314.9 thousand tons, and perishables grew by 79.1% up to 87.2 thousand tons.
