Russian Maritime Register Approves Floating LNG Power Station Design

  • Russian Maritime Register of Shipping has granted approval in principle to the floating LNG power station design (Floating Storage Regasification and Power – FSRP) to be built and operated in Russia.

The vessel will have a storage capacity of some 180,000 cubic meters. Regasified LNG will be transferred to a gas turbine that will generate electric power to be supplied to shore-based consumers. The power station will have a capacity of 356 MWt.

Such stations will be of use in remote areas where it is difficult to build gas pipelines and shore-based power stations. The FSRP can operate in extreme cold temperatures up to minus 40 degrees Centigrade.
