During January-May 2021, Russian Railways loaded 525.7 mn tons of cargo, up 3.5% year-on-year.
Coal loading increased by 9.4% up to 155 mn tons. Oil and products, Russian Railways’ second most important cargo in terms of volume, declined by 2.2% down to 89.9 mn tons. Ferrous and manganese ore decreased by 0.7% down to 49.5 mn tons, construction cargo down 3.3% to 49.4 mn tons, and soda and chemicals down 3.1% to 10.2 mn tons.
Other commodity types grew.
Ferrous metals were up 0.5% to 28.8 mn tons, ferrous metal scrap up 24.7% to 6.3 mn tons, industrial and forming materials up 6.7% up to 13.6 mn tons,
Chemical and mineral fertilizers loading grew by 5.6% to 27.4 mn tons, timber and logs by 2.1% up to 17.9 mn tons, non-ferrous ore and raw suphfur by 0.6% to 8.2 mn tons, cement by 6.1% to 9.3 mn tons. Grain loading volumes grew by 14% up to 11 mn tons.
Rail cargo throughput during January-May 2021 made 1,088 bn tons per km, up 4.6% year-on-year.
In May, Russian Railways loaded 110.9 mn tons of cargo, up 10.3% month-on-month.
Cargo throughput in May amounted to 227.5 bn tons per km, up 8.3% year-on-year.
