Vitino Port to Handle First Vessel in April Next Year

  • The port of Vitino in Murmansk region expects to handle its first vessel on April 1, 2022, Natalia Pinchuk, MD of Nord Star, told speaking at the Port of Arctic business forum held in Arkhangelsk.

The investment project developed by Nord Star is aimed at modernizing the port of Vitino that suspended handling oil products in 2013. The company intends to resume exporting oil products from Vitino via the Northern Sea Route.

The terminal has hour berths including two for loading tankers, 5,000 meters of rails, and a tank farm. The maximum vessel size the port can accommodate is 70,000-85,000 dwt with a draft of up to 13 meters.

The modernization project envisages overhauling the quayside, the rail and road infrastructure and other objects and establishing a border crossing point.

The terminal capacity after modernization will make 4.5 m tons of oil products (petrol, diesel fuel and naphtha) per annum. The project is worth 2.9 bn rubles ($38.1 mn).
