Test Train from Japan to Great Britain Runs Transsiberian Land Bridge on Maersk’s АЕ19

  • A block train carrying forty 40’ units from Japan to Great Britain is making a test run on the Transsiberian Railway as part of Maersk’s АЕ19 multimodal service.

    The container arrived from Yokohama to Vostochny be sea and were loaded on a train that left the station on February 6 to arrive to St. Petersburg on February 17 for loading on board a vessel for Felixtow.

    According to Russian Railways, the overall transit time from Japan to Great Britain is to make some 42 days including 11 days of rail transportation at a distance of 10 thousand kilometers.

    Transit from Japan is scares, and it took time and effort for Maersk and Russian Railways to attract shippers to the Transsiberian, and this first fully Japanese cargo-laden train is a major success of these efforts.

    Both the parties hope that the alternative sea-rail route will become more popular and the service for Japanese shippers will become regular as early as this year.

    Maersk launched АЕ19 in August 2019 in partnership with Russia’s Modul freight forwarding company and Global Ports terminal operator.
