Container Traffic via Caspian Basin Ports in December 2020 Up 9.5%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in December 2020 increased by 9.5% year-on-year. Cabotage grew by 42.1%, and imports by 66.7%. Exports, on the contrary, were down 46.9%.

    The share of the Caspian basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in December 2020 amounted to 0.05%.

    Laden container throughput in the Caspian was down 15.6%. Reefer containers were non-existent in December. Imports made 57.8% of all the laden containers, exports accounted for 31.8%, and cabotage for 10.4% of the total.

    Empty container traffic surged 5.6-fold.

    The port of Astrakhan accounted for 63.2% of the aggregate container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in December. Olya handled 36.8% of the total.
