2.6 Mn Tons of Cargo Transits NSR in January

  • During January 2021, 2.598 mn tons was carried via the Northern Sea Route, up 8.3% year-on-year, the RF Federal Agency for Maritime and Inland Transport reports quoting the statistics of the Northern Sea Route Administration.

    Icebreaking operations in the Northern Sea Route basin were carried out by Rosmorport-operated icebreakers “Admiral Makarov” and “Krasin” and Rosatomflot-operated nuclear icebreakers “Yamal”, “Taimyr”, and “50 Let Pobedy”.

    In the port of Sabetta, where the Yamal LNG facility operates, Rosmorport’s icebreakers “Ob”, “Thor”, and “Sankt-Peterburg” were deployed, and in the port of Dudinka “Alexander Sannikov” and “Andrey Vilkitsky” provided assistance to vessels.

    In January 2021, 5 permits to transit the NSC were issued to foreign-flagged vessels compared to 9 such permits in January 2020 (six of them were for foreign-flagged vessels).
