TOP-5 Russian Container Terminals in 2020

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput of all the Russian sea ports during 2020 amounted to 5.3 mn TEU. Five terminals handled more than 2.9 mn TEU or 55.2% of this volume.

    Commercial Port of Vladivostok (VMTP) became the leader in terms of container throughput. Its container traffic increased by 7.7% up to 672.4 thousand TEU. A year ago, VMTP ranked the third.

    Container Terminal Saint-Petersburg that was the leader in 2019 rates the second in 2020 it. It handled 659.2 thousand TEU, down 13.1% year-on-year.

    Container traffic via First Container Terminal amounted to 652.7 thousand TEU, down 0.2% year-on-year. In 2019, FCT was the second.

    NUTEP that was the fifth in 2019 increased its container traffic by 29.8% up to 486.8 thousand TEU in 2020 and ranks the fourth.

    Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company handled 452.7 thousand TEU, up 14.7% year-on-year. In 2019, VSC was the fourth.

    It should be noted that the highest container throughput growth was via Arctic Consulting Service in Arkhangelsk. Its container traffic surged 6.5-fold. Nikolaevsk Commercial Sea Port was up 6.3-fold, Vladivostok Sea Port Gaydamak up 55%.

    Also, astronomical growth figures were demonstrated by stevedores, which had just several containers in 2019 and in 2020 handled many times more, such as Olya Commercial Sea Port (+49,700%) and Makhachkala Commercial Sea Port (+5,700%).

    The largest decrease in container traffic was in Dalzavod-Terminal in Vladivostok (-89.7%), Vladivostok Sea Terminal (-85.7%), and Sea Port of the Troitsa Bay in Zarubino (-81.2%).
