Russian Transport System Cargo Traffic in January-November 2020: Sea and Air Freight Up

  • During January-November 2020, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system was down 7.4% year-on-year to 7.04 bn tons.

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, the largest volume was carried by road, down 8% year-on-year to 4.8 bn tons.

    Rail cargo declined by 3% year-on-year down to 1.1 bn tons.

    Pipeline traffic was down 9.2% year-on-year to 956.5 mn tons.

    Sea freight increased by 6.1% year-on-year up to 22.3 mn tons.

    Inland shipping volume decreased by 7.2% year-on-year down to 97.1 mn tons.

    Air transport carried 1.03 mn tons, up 0.2% year-on-year.

    In November, pipeline transportation, and sea and air freight increased month-on-month, while cargo transportation by other modes of transport declined. Inland shipping volume decreased the most significantly.
