Container Traffic via Caspian Basin Ports in August 2020 Up 11%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Russian Caspian basin ports in August 2020 increased by 11% year-on-year. Export surged 2.5-fold. Import was down 17.5%, and cabotage down 50%.

    The share of the Caspian basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in August 2020 amounted to 0.06%.

    Laden container throughput in the Caspian was down 11.5%. Reefer containers were non-existent in August. Imports made 74.7% of all the laden containers, exports accounted for 15.9%, and cabotage for 9.4% of the total.

    Empty container traffic grew by 92.5%.

    The port of Olya accounted for 61% of the aggregate container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in August. Astrakhan handled 39% of the total.
