Azov and Black Sea Basin Throughput Down 10% in August

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Azov and Black Sea basin ports in August 2020 decreased by 10% year-on-year. Import declined by 15.2%, export by 10.9%, transit was down 9.4%, and cabotage down 4.8%.

    The share of the Azov and Black Sea basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in August 2020 amounted to 31.9%.

    Almost half of the total was oil and products, with crude oil accounting for 26.7% of the overall throughput, and oil products for 19.9%. Grain amount to 29.7%.

    It should be noted that the highest growth was in the other bulk (suction) segment (+66.3%), grain (+38.7%) and foodstuffs (+15.5%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were Ro-Ro (-92.8%), sugar (-81.1%) and ferry cargo (-80.7%).

    Novorossiysk accounted for 47.5% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Azov and Black basin sea ports in August. Рort Kavkaz handled 12.1%, and Tuapse 11.2% of the total.
