Food Products Import in January-June 2020: Poultry Import Up

  • According to the RF Federal Customs Service’s statistics, in January-June 2020 fresh and frozen meat import was down 31.9% to 134.2 thousand tons.

    Fresh and frozen poultry import increased by 0.5% up to 110.7 thousand tons. Fish import declined by 11% up to 175.5 thousand tons. Canned meat and meat specialties import was up 37% making 10 thousand tons.

    Milk and condensed cream import was down 17.8% to 72.5 thousand tons. Butter import grew by 17.7% amounting to 67.3 thousand tons. Cheese import increased by 11.4% up to 142.6 thousand tons.

    Palm oil import was down 6.3% to 473.3 thousand tons.

    Citrus fruit import was down 9.8% to 785.9 thousand tons. Banana import increased by 0.7% up to 832.4 thousand tons, and apple import by 2.8% up to 611.1 thousand tons.

    Raw sugar import declined by 17.6% down to 2.8 thousand tons, white sugar import dropped by 45.6% down to 103.7 thousand tons.

    Coffee import in January-June grew by 5.7% up to 112.5 thousand tons, and tea import by 2.1% up to 76.2 thousand tons.

    In June, the following categories demonstrated a year-on-year decline in import volumes: citrus fruit (down 32.9% to 44 thousand tons), palm oil (down 36.3% to 60.7 thousand tons), fish (down 25.7% to 19.7 thousand tons), fresh and frozen meat (down 40.2% to 16.5 thousand tons). Other food products import was up.

    Compared to May 2020, the import of fresh and frozen poultry, milk and condensed cream, butter, canned meat and meat specialties, raw sugar increased, the rest of the food product categories under report were down.

    In June, coffee import increased by 36.9% year-on-year and by 6.8% month-on-month to make 18.9 thousand tons. Tea import was up 14% year-on-year and down 12.9% month-on-month to 12.2 thousand tons.
