Russia’s Juice Import Up in Q1

    According to SeaNews Russian Foreign Trade Customs Statistics online service, in Q1 2020 Russia imported 44.9 thousand tons of juice, up 19.4% year-on-year. In monetary terms, juice import increased by 8.9% amounting to $69.7 mn.

    Apple juice has the largest share amounting to 22.1 thousand tons (+44.4%) worth $23.2 mn (+42.3%). The major apple juice exporting countries were China and Poland.

    Orange juice import increased by 8.7% up to 8.7 thousand tons in terms of tonnage declining, by contrast, in terms of value by 4.7% down to $18.3 mn. Most of the products came from Brazil and the Netherlands.

    Import of pineapple juice decreased by 10% down to 1.8 thousand tons remaining level with the first quarter of the last year in terms of value at $2.4 mn. The largest volumes were shipped from the Netherlands, South Africa and Israel.

    Pear juice import made 1.5 thousand tons surging 5-fold, its value amounting to $2.6 mn (up 3.7-fold). Most of the products came from China, Austria and Germany.

    The largest exporters of grape juice to Russia were Spain, Uzbekistan and Italy. In the first quarter of 2020, import of grape juice made 1.4 thousand tons (-33.3%) worth $2 million (-39.4%).

    During the first quarter of 2020, juice was shipped to Russia from 53 countries. The largest exporting country was China. In addition, significant volumes came from Brazil.

    15 thousand tons of juice was imported from China, 8.8 times more than during the same period in 2019. In monetary terms, Chinese juice import increased by 8.6 times up to $16.3 mn. Russia imported apple and pear juice from China.

    Juice shipments from Brazil increased by 1.7% up to 6 thousand tons in terms of tonnage and decreased by 8.3% down to $13.2 mn in monetary terms. Orange juice accounted for the largest share of shipments.

    Russia also imported 3.8 thousand tons (+8.6%) of juice worth $7.3 mn (-2.7%) from the Netherlands. Pineapple and orange juice as well as mixed juice accounted for a significant share of imports.
