Coal and Coke Export in January-May 2020 Down, Import Up

  • According to the RF Federal Customs Service, in January-May 2020 Russia exported 72.2 mn tons of coal, down 14.9% year-on-year. In terms of value, coal export amounted to $4.8 bn, down 33.9% year-on-year.

    Coal import during the period under report made 9.2 mn tons, up 4.7% year-on-year, worth $131.3 mn, down 17.7% year-on-year.

    Coke and coal char export during the first five months of 2020 made 811.2 thousand tons, down 37% year-on-year, worth $150.6 mn (-53.5% year-on-year).

    In May, coal export made 15.7 mn tons, down 3.3% year-on-year and up 32.2% month-on-month. Value-wise, coal export dropped by 22.5% year-on-year and grew by 27.9% month-on-month making $1 bn.

    Coke and coal char export in May amounted to 187.3 thousand tons, down 7.1% year-on-year and up 14.4% month-on-month. In terms of value it was worth $33 mn, down 34.9% year-on-year and up 23.1% month-on-month.
