According to SeaNews Russian Foreign Trade Customs Statistics online service, in Q1 2020 Russia exported 396.7 thousand tons of vegetables, 20.3% more than during the same period in 2019. In monetary terms, exports increased by 11.6% up to $98.3 mn.
A large share of the export is was peas. In January-March 2020, 125.4 thousand tons (+5.1%) of peas worth $31.7 mn (+8.2%) was exported. Pakistan, Italy, Bangladesh and Nepal accounted for a significant share of supplies.
Potato export increased 2.2-fold up to 125 thousand tons worth $14.4 mn (up 2.2 times). The main countries of destination were Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Moldova and Turkmenistan.
Chick-peas export made 78.6 thousand tons (+6.4%) worth $28.4 mn (-0.4%). Most of the volume was shipped to Pakistan and Turkey.
Onions and garlic export made 22.9 thousand tons (-27.8%) worth $3.4 mn (-35.8%), mostly to Iraq, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Moldova.
Exports of lentils decreased by 39.7% to 19.6 thousand tons in physical terms and by 27.4% to $8.5 mn in monetary terms. Significant volumes were shipped to Turkey and Pakistan.
Cucumber export increased by 3.5 times up to 5.2 thousand tons in terms of tonnage and by 6.8 times to $4.1 mn in terms of value. Cucumbers were mostly designated for Belarus and Ukraine.
During the first quarter of 2020, vegetables were exported from Russia to 64 countries. The major countries of destination were Ukraine, Pakistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Exports to Ukraine increased by 87% up to 73.5 thousand tons in physical terms and by 67.9% up to $9.4 mn in monetary terms. Most of the shipments were potatoes.
69.7 thousand tons of vegetables (+33.3%) was $20.6 mn (+29.6%) were exported to Pakistan. Peas and chick-peas accounted for a significant share of the total.
Vegetables export to Azerbaijan increased by 78.4% up to 48 thousand tons in terms of tonnage and by 80% up to 5.4 mn dollars in terms of value. Potatoes prevailed.
Export shipments to Turkey amounted to 34.2 thousand tons (-33.8%) worth $11.1 mn (-25.5%). Mostly chick-peas, peas and lentils were exported there.
