Container Traffic via Far East Basin Ports in May: Cabotage Up

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Far East basin ports in May 2020 increased by 9.5% year-on-year. Cabotage grew by 19.8%, and export was up 14.7%. Import was down 2%, and transit down 23.5%.

    The share of the Far East basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in May 2020 amounted to 35.6%.

    Laden container throughput in the Far East grew by 13.1% year-on-year. Reefer containers accounted for 7.6% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 92.4%. Imports made 36.7% of all the laden containers, cabotage 30.5%, exports 27.5% and transit 5.3%.

    Empty container traffic was up 1.4%.

    The port of Vladivostok accounted for 57.2% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian Far East sea ports in May. Vostochny handled 23.3%, and Korsakov 8.3% of the total.
