TransContainer Loads Ore into OpenTops

  • The Zabaikalsk branch of TransContainer in cooperation with Russian Railways and Chinese Railway, is implementing a new technology to deliver iron ore concentrate to China in OpenTop containers with a capacity of 32 tons.

    A test shipment consisting of four such containers with ferrous ore concentrate produced by Bystrinsky mining company was made in May via Borzya rail station to Manchuria station.

    An innovative method of loading was implemented with an automatic elevator dosing concentrate into containers, and the shunting locomotive continuously moving the train under the elevator.

    This allows of faster, cheaper and more convenient loading than the gondola car technology that was used to transport ore concentrate so far, the company says.

    In case of the test shipments are a successful, the service will be offered on a regular basis.
