Coal and Coke Export in Q1 2020 Down

  • According to the RF Federal Customs Service, in January-March 2020 Russia exported 44.7 mn tons of coal, down 5.9% year-on-year. In terms of value, coal export amounted to $2.93 bn, down 36.5% year-on-year.

    Coal import during the period under report made 5.2 mn tons, down 4.7% year-on-year, worth $77 mn, down 21.3% year-on-year.

    Coke and coal char export in Q1 2020 made 461 thousand tons, down 40.5% year-on-year, worth $90.8 mn (-52.4% year-on-year).

    In March, coal export made 18.1 mn tons, down 23.9% year-on-year and up 29% month-on-month. Value-wise, coal export dropped by 42.5% year-on-year and grew by 29.8% month-on-month making $1.18 bn.

    Coke and coal char export in March amounted to 151.7 thousand tons, down 36.9% year-on-year and up 7.4% month-on-month. In terms of value it was worth $30.2 mn, down 50.1% year-on-year and up 4.1% month-on-month.
