Container Traffic via Russian Ports Down 6.3% in April 2020

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput of all the Russian sea ports in April 2020 decreased by 6.3% year-on-year.

    Import container traffic declined by 5%, export by 9.6%, and transit dropped by 49.4%. Cabotage, on the contrary, grew by 8.2%.

    Laden container throughput via the Russian sea ports was down 4.7%. Reefer containers accounted for 13.9% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 86.1%. Imports made 49.2% of all the laden containers, exports 37.3%, cabotage 12.1%, and transit 1.4%.

    Empty container traffic declined by 11.2%.

    The Baltic basin accounted for 44.8% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian sea ports in April. The Far East basin handled 36%, the Azov and Black Sea basin accounted for 15.7%, the Arctic basin for 3.4% and the Caspian basin for 0.1% of the total.
