Container Traffic via Caspian Basin Ports in March 2020 Up 2.5-fold

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in March 2020 surged 2.5-fold year-on-year. Import was up 2.5-fold, and export up 3-fold. Cabotage declined by 26.5%. Transit made 22 TEU.

    The share of the Caspian basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in March 2020 amounted to 0.1%.

    Laden container throughput in the Caspian doubled year-on-year. Reefer containers were non-existent in March. Imports made 46.4% of all the laden containers, exports accounted for 43%, transit for 6.7%, and cabotage for 3.9% of the total.

    Empty container traffic surged 3.9-fold.

    The port of Astrakhan accounted for 73% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian Caspian basin sea ports in March. Olya handled 27% of the total.
