Container Traffic via Arctic Basin Ports in March 2020: Laden Containers Up

  • According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Arctic basin ports in March 2020 increased by 1.7% year-on-year.

    Cabotage, which accounts for the major share of the total, remained much on the previous year’s level (+0.3%). Export surged 2.3-fold. Import made 176 TEU.

    The share of the Arctic basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in March 2020 amounted to 3%.

    Laden container throughput in the Arctic grew by 3% year-on-year. Reefer containers accounted for 2.8% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 97.2%. Cabotage made 99.4% of all the laden containers, imports 0.3%, exports 0.3%.

    Empty container traffic declined by 0.9%.

    The port of Dudinka accounted for 45.7% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian Arctic basin sea ports in March. Murmansk handled 32.6% of the total, and Arkhangelsk 21.7%.
