  • According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin ports in January 2020 grew by 4% year-on-year. Import was up 10.8%, export increased by 6%. Cabotage declined by 13.9%, and transit by 38.3%.

    The share of the Far East basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in January 2020 amounted to 24,1%.

    More than 75% in the Russian Far Eastern ports’ commodity structure is coal, oil and products. In January, coal and coke accounted for 42.8% of the total volume, crude oil for 26.5% and oil products for 6.9%. Containerized cargo constituted 8.1% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth was in the chemical and mineral fertilizers segment (up 2.9-fold), Ro-Ro (+54.5%) and liquified gas (+27.3%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were other bulk (suction) (-75.5%), non-ferrous metals (-52.6%) and grain (-50.5%).

    Vostochny accounted for 37.2% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin sea ports in January. Vanino handled 14.7%, and Nakhodka 12.6% of the total.
