Russian Transport Sector Freight Up 2.1%

  • During January-October 2019, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system was up 2.1% to 6.87 bn tons.

    The only segment that grew was road, which was up 3.8% to 4.7 mn tons.

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, rail cargo volume declined by 0.7% down to 1,067 mn tons.

    Pipeline traffic was down 0.8% year-on-year to 952.3 mn tons.

    Maritime transport volume decreased by 17.8% year-on-year down to 16 mn tons.

    Inland shipping volume dropped by 15.7% year-on-year down to 89.8 mn tons.

    Air transport carried 0.93 mn tons, down 4.6% year-on-year.

    In October, cargo transportation by rail, pipe and air freight increased month-on-month, other transport modes declined.
