According to the RF Federal Customs Service statistics, during January-August Russia exported some 18.5 mn tons of wheat and meslin, down 33.5% year-on-year. In terms of value, grain export dropped 25.3% down to $3.8 bn.
Wheat import into Russia during January-August 2019 declined by 43.9% down to 122.2 thousand tons. Corn import declined by 20.7% down to 27.5 thousand tons. Barley import made 4.8 thousand tons, down 61.3% year-on-year.
In terms of value, wheat import was down 16.5% to $28.8 mn. Barley import declined by 15% down to $1.7 mn, while corn import was down 26% to $93.7 mn.
In August alone, wheat and meslin export made 4.9 mn tons, up 4% year-on-year and up 63.6% month-on-month. In terms of value, it increased by 3.9% year-on-year and surged 65.2% month-on-month to make $918.2 mn.
Wheat import in August made 7.4 thousand tons, up 2.6-fold year-on-year and up 53.5% month-on-month. Corn import increased by 50% year-on-year and dropped 66.7 month-on-month to make 0.3 thousand tons.
In terms of value, wheat import in August 2019 made $1.7 mn, down 10.5% year-on-year and down 53.3% month-on-month. Corn import grew 3-fold year-on-year and dropped 57.1% month-on-month amounting to $300 thousand.
