Grain Export and Import

  • According to the RF Federal Customs Service statistics, during January-July Russia exported some 13.6 mn tons of wheat and meslin, down 41.1% year-on-year. In terms of value, grain export dropped 31.5% down to $2.9 bn.

    Wheat import into Russia during January-July 2019 declined by 46.1% down to 114.8 thousand tons. Corn import dropped declined by 21.5% down to 27.2 thousand tons. Barley was not imported during June and July, so the volume remained 4.2 thousand tons, minus 39.1% year-on-year.

    In terms of value, wheat import was down 15.8% to $27.1 mn. Barley import grew by 33.3% up to $1.6 mn, while corn import declined by 26.1% down to $93.5 mn.

    In July alone, wheat and meslin export made about 3 mn tons, down 22.4% year-on-year, but up 2.8- fold month-on-month. In terms of value, it decreased 21.6% year-on-year and surged 2.4-fold month-on-month to make $555.9 mn.

    Wheat import in July made 15.9 thousand tons, down 19.7% year-on-year and up 37.1% month-on-month. Corn import surged 4.5-fold year-on-year and 3-fold month-on-month up to 0.9 thousand tons.

    In terms of value, wheat import in July 2019 made $3.8 mn, up 8.6% year-on-year and up 35.7% month-on-month. Corn import grew 2.3-fold year-on-year and 3.5-fold month-on-month up to $700 thousand.
