Foodstuffs Import into Russia

  • During the first month of 2019, according to the RF Federal Customs Service, meat and meat products import into Russia declined. Compared to December last year, import of almost all foodstuff categories decreased.

    In January 2019, Russia imported 25.6 thousand tons of fresh and frozen meat, down 22.7% year-on-year.

    Fresh and frozen poultry import declined by 8.2% year-on-year down to 13.4 thousand tons. Fish import was down 17.8% to 32.3 thousand tons.

    Canned meat and meat specialties import grew by 22.2% up to 1.1 thousand tons.

    Milk and condensed cream import increased by 25.2% up to 15.9 thousand tons. Cheese and cottage cheese import also grew, by 9% year-on-year up to 18.2 thousand tons. Butter import surged by 54.2% up to 9.1 thousand tons.

    Vegetable oil import dropped by 44.4% down to 0.5 thousand tons. Palm oil import grew by 3.7% up to 75.4 thousand tons.

    Citrus fruit import was up by 28% to 247.4 thousand tons, apples import up 8.2% to 90.8 thousand tons, and bananas import declined by 2.2% down to 138.5 thousand tons.

    Raw sugar import was down 25% to 0.3 thousand tons, white sugar import, on the contrary, increased by 2.3% up to 26.3 thousand tons.

    Coffee import grew by 1.3% up to 16.1 thousand tons, while tea import declined by 21.1% down to 9.7 thousand tons.
