Container Throughput via Ukrainian Ports

  • During January-September 2018, the sea ports of Ukraine handled slightly over 591.3 thousand TEU.

It is 40.6% above the result for the same period of 2017 and slightly exceeds container throughput via Russia’s largest Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, which handled 564.3 thousand TEU.

It is worth noting that in 2017, the Sea Ports Administration did not include the container throughput of Ilyichevsk Sea Fishing Port in the statistics of Chernomorsk.

According to SeaNews’ data, Ilyichevsk Sea Fishing Port handled 88.7 thousand TEU in January-September this year, down 4.3% compared to the same period of 2017.

Export container traffic via the Ukrainian sea ports made 277.2 thousand TEU, up 55.5% year-on-year. Import grew 35.2% up to 292.1 thousand TEU.

Transit dropped 9.9% down to 22.2 thousand TEU. Cabotage was non-existent.

    Odessa handled 425.1 thousand TEU during January-September 2018, up 14.4% year-on-year.

Chernomorsk (formerly known as Ilyichevsk) handled 88.7 thousand TEU compared to just 6 TEU in January-September 2017.

Yuzhny also grew – up 57.3% to 77.2 thousand TEU.

Olvia Specialized Sea Port (formerly, Oktyabrsk) handled 325 TEU increasing its last year’s January-September result 9.3-fold.
