Turkstream Stage 2 Construction Recommenced

  • South Stream Transport B.V., a subsidiary of Gazprom, has recommenced the construction of the second string of the Turkstream gas pipeline.

The first string was completed in April 2018, and the pipe-laying vessel “Pioneering Spirit” returned to its home port Rotterdam.

Now the “Pioneering Spirit” is back to the site. On June 20 the vessel came to the Black Sea and now after completing preparatory works has started laying the second pipeline string.

So far 1161 km of pipes has been laid, which makes some 62% of the entire job scope.

Gazprom started the construction of the pipeline from Russia to Turkey in May 2017. The first string is aimed for supplying the Turkish market, and the second string is for South and Southeast Europe.

The capacity of each of the two strings is 15.75 bn cbm of gas annually.

South Stream Transport is responsible for the construction and is the pipeline operator.
