TramsContainer carried 725 thousand TEU in H1 2016, up 4.5% compared to the operational result of H1 2015.
Domestic traffic grew 9.1% to 411.9 thousand TEU, export was up 4.7% to 176.9 thousand TEU, import up 7% to 104.9 thousand TEU, while transit declined 36.3% to 31 thousand TEU. The company explains the drop in transit by decreasing car manufacturing in the Central Asia.
The terminals operated by TransContainer handled 578 thousand TEU, slightly below the level of H1 2015 (-0.4%).
According to TransContainer, the overall Russian rail container market grew 6.1% in H1 2016 amounting to 1,538 thousand TEU. Domestic traffic increased 14.4%, export was up 1%, while import declined 5.3% and transit was down 3.3% year-on-year.
In Q2 2016, the Russian rail container market demonstrated year-on-year growth – for the first time since Q3 2014. The overall volume increased 13.2% to make 808 thousand TEU.
The major growth factor was domestic transportation, which increased 20.7%, while international traffic grew 5.6% with both export and transit up.
