Food Products Import into Russia

  • According to the RF Federal Customs Service’s statistics, in January-September 2019, citrus fruit import into Russia increased, while apple and banana import declined.

    Fresh and frozen meat import was down 1.6% to 284.6 thousand tons. Fresh and frozen poultry import increased by 7.8% up to 164.4 thousand tons. Fish import grew by 2% up to 279.6 thousand tons. Canned meat and meat specialties import declined by 5.3% down to 12.6 thousand tons.

    Milk and condensed cream import was up 28% to 135.9 thousand tons. Cheese and cottage cheese import grew by 11.1% up to 197.5 thousand tons. Butter import surged by 38% amounting to 87.2 thousand tons.

    Vegetable oil import dropped by 88.7% down to 2.2 thousand tons. Palm oil import was up 5.3% to 757.4 thousand tons.

    Apple import declined by 13.3% down to 735.8 thousand tons, and banana import by 3.7% down to 1.1 mn tons. Citrus fruit import was up 6.2% to over 1 mn tons.

    Raw sugar import increased by 22% up to 5 thousand tons, white sugar import grew by 8.8% up to 213.1 thousand tons.

    In September, the following categories demonstrated a year-on-year decline in import volumes: bananas (-5%), apples (-29.5%), citrus fruit (-15.4%), fresh and frozen meat (-7.1%).

    Compared to August 2019, all fruit categories under report, fish, fresh and frozen meat and butter import was down, import of other categories increased month-on-month in September.

    Coffee import in January-September grew by 13.9% up to 165.1 thousand tons, while tea import declined by 13.8% down to 110.4 thousand tons.

    In September, coffee import increased by 6.4% year-on-year and declined by 14.9% month-on-month to make 18.3 thousand tons. Tea import was down 10.6% year-on-year and up 0.9% month-on-month to 11.8 thousand tons.
