During January 2018, cargo transportation by all modes of transport in Russia amounted to 547.5 mn tons, increasing 3% year-on-year. Compared to December 2017, the volume was down 21.2%.
According to the RF Statistics Agency, the major share is carried by road, 33 mn tons, up 4.5% year-on-year, but down 29.7% month-on-month.
Rail cargo grew 3.5% to 103.9 tons, but declined 6.1% compared to December 2017.
Maritime transport carried 1.5 mn tons, down 6.3% year-on-year and down 21.1% month-on-month.
Pipeline transportation amounted to 107 mn tons, down 1.5% year-on-year, but up 1.6% month-on-month.
Inland shipping cargo grew 10.5% year-on-year to 2.1 mn tons, but dropped 30% compared to December 2017.
Air freight made 0.08 mn tons, about the same as in January 2017 and 92% below the result of December 2017.
