Container Throughput via Ukrainian Ports

  • During 2017, container traffic via Ukraine’s major sea ports made 603.5 thousand TEU, up 4.1% year-on-year.

    This figure does not include the statistics for Ilyichevsk Sea Fishing Port. According to SeaNews’ data, Ilyichevsk Sea Fishing Port handled 133.4 thousand TEU, up 32.1% year-on-year.

    Ukraine’s total port handled TEU volume is still below the container traffic via Russia’s Novorossiysk, which made 736.6 thousand TEU in 2017.

    Export container traffic via the Ukrainian ports amounted to 259,9 thousand TEU, which is 1.5% above the result for 2016.

    Imports grew 5.4% to 307.9 thousand TEU.

    Cabotage dropped 13.8% below the 2016 level making some 2.3 thousand TEU.

    Transit grew 6.7% to 33.3 thousand TEU.

    Odessa handled 519.5 thousand TEU in 2017, up 8.1% year-on-year.

    Yuzhny saw its container volume decline 12.2% to 70.7 thousand TEU.

    Chernomorsk (formerly, Ilyichevsk) was down 26.9% to 13.3 thousand tons.

    In December 2017, the Ukrainian sea ports handled a total of 58.7 thousand TEU, 13.6% more than in November.
