Azov and Caspian Freight Market, Week 50

  • No significant changes are seen in the Sea of Azov market this week.

The main interest for owners is still the same – long voyages. This, however, creates some difficulties for charterers in fixing their TBS and Marmara destinations.

Rates for long run voyages are going down. Shorter destinations are still resisting and keeping more or less similar levels.

Most traders / charterers are busy planning their forthcoming New Year holidays and do not expect new December shipments to come en force.

Next month volumes do not look promising either, and this might potentially lead to significant correction just before the New Year vacations.

The Caspian market is lowering despite the shortage of available tonnage. The market is full of proposals ex Aktau and Makhachkala, however, there is a substantial gap of $4-5 between charterers’ and owners’ desired ideas. Owners still prefer to get fixed ex Astrakhan due to premium rates there.

The weather forecast for the Sea of Azov is surprising us again. There are almost no traces of previously predicted negative temperatures and in case the newly forecsted temperature comes true then Rostov is going to get +13 for the New Year’s eve.

We remind you that the rates cited in the article are average market rates. We ask our readers to pay attention that this information is not a commercial offer and can not be an example for comparison in commercial disputes and arbitration proceedings.
