Global Ports’ Container Throughput Up in Q4, Down in FY 2023

  • Global Ports, now part of the Delo Group, has announces its operational results for Q4 and the full year of 2023.

The growth of Russian container market continued in Q4 2023 resulting in total marine container throughput of Russian ports amounting to 4.72 million TEU in 2023, an increase of 15.5% year-on-year. Q4 2023 market growth was both on year-on-year and q-o-q basis: 21.9% and 3.2% respectively.

The key drivers behind the growth were gradual recovery after the shocks of 2022, a growth of the Russian economy as well as rebuilding of the supply chains, Global Ports explained.

Global Ports’ consolidated marine container throughput amounted to 264 thousand TEU in Q4 2023, an increase of 5.9% quarter-on-quarter and 47.5% year-on-year outpacing the growth of the market for the same period.

Marine container throughput at the Group’s terminals in the Baltics increased in Q4 2023 to 125 thousand TEU, an 11.1-fold growth compared to Q4 2022.

However, the full year 2023 marine container throughput of the Group’s terminals in the Baltic remained below the full year 2022 volumes (-20.2% year-on-year) given strong volumes of Q1 2022.

Global Ports increased its marine bulk throughput in Q4 2023 by 27.8% year-on-year to 1.65 million tons and, for the full year of 2023, by 68.3% year-on-year to 6.41 million tons as a result of successful efforts to increase utilization rate of temporary available container facilities at the terminals in the Russian Baltics.
