Global Ports’ Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company (VSC) in the port of Vostochny in the Russian Far East has taken delivery of nine new RMG and RTG cranes, Global Ports said in a statement.
With the new addition, VSC will operate 15 RMG units and 11 RTG cranes. Four RMGs and three RTGs will be deployed at the storage yard and two RMGs will be installed in the railway zone of the terminal.
The cranes have a hoisting capacity of 50 tons and perform 25% quicker than the units currently deployed at the terminal. The cranes designated for the storage yard can stack containers six tiers high.
The contract or building the cranes was concluded with China’s ZPMC at the Eastern Economic Forum in 2022. The newly acquired equipment is part of the investment programme aimed at increasing the capacity at VSC terminal.
Global Ports is consistently increasing the capacity of its Far Eastern terminal to serve the growing container traffic in the region. According to Albert Lukholyot, CEO of Global Ports, by mid-2030s VSC will be capable of handling up to 1.7 mn TEU annually.
During January-September 2023 VSC handled 475,000 TEU, up 4% year-on-year. In the coming months the terminal will get 8 tractor-trailers, three terminal trucks, and two 16-ton and 32-ton lift trucks.
This year, VSC put into operation two high-capacity Liebherr LHM 550 cranes and four reach stackers. During 2022-2023, Global Ports relocated to VSC more than 25 units of port handling equipment from its terminals in Northwest Russia.
