A vessel operated by a Chinese shipping company has left Arkhangelsk this October to deliver sawn goods to China via the Northern Sea Route, Arkhangelsk region Governor Alexander Tsybulsky said speaking at the international Made in Russia Forum.
The ship came to Arkhangelsk en route from St. Petersburg. In Arkhangelsk, some 300 containers laden with sawn goods. The Chinese line plans to make 6-8 calls to Arkhangelsk during the summer and autumn navigation season of 2024, starting in June. This means, about a million cubic meters of sawn goods per year can be exported.
According to Tsybulsky, in the near future the exports of timber and woodwork from the region to Asia can exceed 1.5 mn tons per annum. This year, the exports of these commodities from Arkhangelsk region to China has doubled compared to the 2021 figures.
