Port of Korsakov to be Reconstructed

  • The Main Department of State Expertise (Glavgosexpertiza) has approved of the first stage of the reconstruction of the port infrastructure in the sea port of Korsakov, Glavgosexpertiza said in a statement.

    The port reconstruction is part of a larger project aimed at developing the Sakhalin Oblast Logistics Technopark. Port modernization is expected give an impulse to the economic development of the region.

    The first stage of the port reconstruction envisages modernizing the hydrotechnical infrastructure in the South cargo area which specializes on handling general cargo, fish and seafood.

    On completing the reconstruction, the annual capacity of the berths will make 4 mn tons. The project will allow of expanding the scope of commodities handled and increase the number of ship calls, which will have a positive effect on the throughput of general cargo and fish in Korsakov.

    The Southern Pier quayside to be reconstructed is 521 meter long and consists of four berths. The project also envisages building a protective breakwater 411 meters long.

    Federal Unitary Enterprize Rosmorport, a federal agency responsible for port property management, acts as the contractor for the project.
