The Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy has joined the federal project Autonomous Shipping. The Academy has signed a contract to acquire a navigation simulator for training shipboard and shore-based personnel in e-navigation and autonomous avigation, the RF Federal Maritime Agency for Maritime and River Transport said in a statement.
The equipment is designed to be used in training crews for unmanned sea-going vessels, specialists of remote control centers that operate such vessels and shore-based VTM center operators.
Under the Autonomous Shipping federal project the federal port property management agency Rosmorport took part in developing and finalizing the technical requirements for the infrastructure, shipboard and shore-based equipment, port fleet and simulators for unmanned navigation.
This year, it is planned to have two state of the art vessels, the ferries “Marshal Rokossovsky” and “General Chernyakhovsky” operated by Rosmorport, classified for autonomous navigation.
In 2024, the most recent shipboard and shore-based equipment to support autonomous shipping is to be put into operation in two ports, Ust-Luga and Baltiysk and installed on board the “Marshal Rokossovsky” and “General Chernyakhovsky”.
