A ceremony to lay the keel for the second Design 00840 Karelia cruise liner “Mikhail Zhvanetsky” has been held at Krasnoe Sormovo Shipyard, Russia’s United Shipbuilding Corporation said in a statement.
Three river-sea-going sisterships of the type are to be built under the governmental programme to modernize Russia’s inland fleet.
The Karelia cruiser will be deployed in the Sea of Azov, Black, Caspian and White seas, in the Gulf of Finland and in the Russian inland waterways.
The first vessel in the series is planned for delivery in 2025, with the two sisterships to follow in 2026.
