During January-April 2023, Russian Railways loaded 411 mn tons of cargo, 0.2% above the liftings during the first four months of 2022.
Coal loading, which is Russian Railways’ top commodity, increased by 1% year-on-year up to 121.6 mn tons.
Oil and products, Russian Railways’ second most important cargo, made 72.1 mn tons, level with last year’s figure. Ferrous and manganese ore loading declined by 1.8% down to 38 mn tons.
Construction cargo was up 12.2% to 42.3 mn tons, grain up 36.4% to 10.3 mn tons, non-ferrous ore and raw sulphur up 0.2% to 5.9 mn tons, coke up 1.9% to 3.7 mn tons.
Other commodities demonstrated a negative trend.
Ferrous metals were down 6.1% to 22.6 mn tons, mineral fertilizers down 1.3% to 20.3 mn tons, timber and logs down 22.1% to 9.4 mn tons, chemicals and soda down 11.8% to 7.2 mn tons, cement down 0.6% to 6.8 mn tons, and ferrous metal scrap down 2.8% to 3.9 mn tons.
Rail cargo throughput during January-April made 899.1 bn tons/km, up 1.8% year-on-year.
In April, Russian Railways loaded 105.5 mn tons of cargo, up 3.1% year-on-year.
Cargo throughput in April amounted to 221.6 bn tons/km, down 1.1% year-on-year.
